Cleaning mop and broom

When it comes to mop and broom I have to say that I don't feel my home clean enough if I still have unclean mop or broom. It makes sense to say that we want to clean our floor with a "clean" cleaning tools. cleaning tools are so thankful for cleaning our houses' floors, so they deserve a good cleaning routine after each use.

Mops are absorbing all the dirts and stains off the floor. This makes a good excuse for it to hold bacteria, dirts and germs that we don't want to keep it so far in our houses. On the other hand reusing the mops in this case will put the germs, bacteria and of-course the dirts back on the floors.

Sometimes an unclean mops creates a bad and mildew smell when using it which is absolutely against the feeling of a clean area. So to clean my mop I just start by soaking it into warm water with some detergent and start the process. This is my mop before cleaning.

The next step is to de-attach of the mop off of the wooden stick and drop it in the washing machine. So this was my mop before going into the washing machine.

To prevent the hard part of the mop to damage anything in my washing machine I just put it inside an old  pillow case that I only use for these purposes. I added some vinegar , lemon and baking soda. I don't add any fabric softener. I set the temp to 50. After it is nice and clean I reattach it to the stick and I hang the stick to make the mop dries properly.

Here is my mop after the cycle in my washing machine.. We are done with the mop. Let's move to the broom. Broom absorbs all dusts and hair on the floor. And no matter how the weather is or how weekly or daily we clean the floor we still find dust and hair stick all around the edges of the walls and around chairs' legs. So the broom makes us a favour to invite all hair and dust on the floor to live between its hair.

This was my broom before cleaning. I just soak it into warm water with some detergent for couple of hours. The unclean broom will never be as efficient as it is when it's clean.

and I used a long teeth comb to remove the hair, dander and dirty stuff hanging to the broom hair. Instead of taking a stick or a pen and start removing the hair from one section by another I liked the comb idea because it saves time and effort.

You can see now how much dirt was there.

And here is my broom . Clean and tidy. I hope you liked the post. Just remember to clean your tools after each use. Don't wait to the next time of use. Each week you need to kill germs on mop and broom by adding germs killer to the water when you soak them. And because we use the washing machine for some of these purposes you might need to make a vinegar cycle to your washing machine one extra time than usual.

  1. Keeping your cleaning tools is so important. I'm with you, Sweet, what's the reason to clean if you're using dirty tools?
